Description

Varietal Qualities

Dolcetto translates to “little sweet one” in Italian, although the wines are perfectly dry by modern day wine making terms.  In the vineyard Dolcetto is similar to Pinot Noir in the sense that it is rather sensitive to its soils and climate.  In the cellar the grape’s dark purple skins require only a short maceration time to produce deeply colored wine with good tannin.  Ultimately in our California soil the finished wines are medium bodied yet retain the candied cherry, licorice and almond flavor characteristics of their Italian heritage.

Wine Notes

A well rounded wine with aromas of blueberry, raspberry and baking spice.  One the palate, the wine opens with ripe fruit flavors such as black cherries and red currant followed by along, pleasing finish with soft tannins and dark fruits.

Vintage 2014: 88 points, Wine Enthusiast

“Ripe black cherry, roasted meat, wet stone and caramel notes show on the nose of this bottling of a grape rarely seen in this region. It’s slightly sweet on the palate, with ripe blueberry and cocoa flavors, but compelling for its novelty.” —Matt Kettman
